Shanava is a licensed educator with over 10 years of experience in the K-12 setting. Following her graduation from Florida State University with a B.S. in Mathematics, she taught in public high schools in both Dade and Leon County before becoming the Associate Director of High School Programs at Breakthrough Miami, an education non-profit serving underrepresented youth across Miami-Dade.
In this course we will cover
5 Most Essential Topics for a Strong Algebra Foundation
We will cover the following topics: Number Sense, Orders of Operations, Simplifying & Evaluating Expressions, Solving Linear Equations, Graphing Fundamentals.
Transferable Skills
Students will learn skills that can be used not only in their math classes, but in all courses (test taking strategies, note taking strategies, etc.).
Culturally Relevant Applications of Each Topic
We will discuss how each of these topics can be applied in their daily lives. Students will be able to make the connections between math and other industries through hands on activities and discussions.
